Avondale Municipal Art Committee to host Virtual Art Reception for “Achieving Artists Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers Scholarship Art Contest”
The City of Avondale Municipal Art Committee will host a virtual art reception on May 28th, to showcase the works of Avondale high school seniors. The art represents the entries submitted by young artists for the 8th Annual Achieving Artists Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers Scholarship Art Contest.
The show will be hosted virtually as part of a Facebook Live Event on the Avondale Artist Community (https://www.facebook.com/AvondaleArtistCommunity ) and City of Avondale AZ (https://www.facebook.com/CityofAvondaleAZ/ ) pages on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. Winners of the art contest will be announced live. The public is invited to join the event via Facebook Live ( https://www.facebook.com/events/260591995300032/?active_tab=discussion) .
The show marks the culmination of the local scholarship competition, open to all Avondale high school age graduating seniors who are planning on enrolling into college. Scholarship prizes will be awarded at the event to help further the college education of selected artists.
“This is a great opportunity for the Avondale Municipal Art Committee to support and encourage talented youth in their creative and artistic endeavors,” said Avondale Councilmember Bryan Kilgore, who led the development of the program when he served as Chair of the Municipal Arts Committee.

The High School Art Contest originated in 2011, each spring Avondale Municipal Art Committee holds the Achieving Artists High School Art Contest to provide an opportunity for committee to encourage & recognize the artistic talents of Avondale’s graduating high school seniors.
Achieving Artists High School Art Contest is open to all graduating seniors from Avondale High Schools. The exhibit in Avondale will show case various mediums in the categories of two and three dimensional art and photography. The awards will be applied towards the college of the recipients’ choice, in the event no school is chosen the award will be forfeited or awarded runner-up. The contest is sponsored by the Avondale Municipal Art Committee, and partnerships with other art and educational organizations.
