Proclamations are ceremonial documents that declare a day, week, or month in honor of a cause, individual, or occasion significant to Avondale and its residents. A proclamation does not indicate the Mayor, City Council, or City of Avondale endorses your program or activity, and no such implication should be made when publicizing events, activities, etc.

The Mayor, on behalf of the Avondale City Council, generally presents and issues proclamations. The proclamations may be issued at City Council meetings or signed by the Mayor and made available for pick up.

Proclamation Guidelines

Proclamations will NOT be issued for:

• Events or organizations with no direct relationship to the City of Avondale.
• Commercial entities, organizations, and events unrelated to Avondale.
• Matters of political advocacy.
• Pending ballot or legislative issues.
• An advertisement, endorsement, or commercial promotion.
• Multiple proclamations for similar subject matter. It is preferred that these be consolidated.

Reasons to request a proclamation include:

• A date or anniversary relating to the City of Avondale.
• Significant historical commemorations.
• Promote the City of Avondale's missions, core purpose, core values, and strategic plan.
• To highlight an issue that has citywide or regional public interest.
• Recognizing a national, state, or regional cause that coincides with a local cause (i.e., Month of the Military Child).
• Recognizing an individual or group of persons who have positively impacted Avondale.
• A proclamation to a for-profit organization may be issued to recognize participation in community efforts.

Please complete the form to request a proclamation from the City of Avondale. Your request must meet the following:

• Requests must be made no fewer than 30 days in advance of the proclamation date to allow time for review, approval, and document preparation.
• Proclamations will not be issued to individuals or groups unrelated to the city.
• Proclamations for annual events will not be automatically renewed. Requests must be made every year.
• The City Council Meeting is the council’s business meeting. The Mayor will work with the City Clerk and City Manager to prioritize those proclamations that will be presented at the meeting. All other proclamations will be executed and made available for pickup
• The Mayor's Office reserves the right to modify or deny any proclamation requests and edit any wording submissions.
• These guidelines are not all inclusive and the City has the discretion to change, alter, or modify at any time.
