Energy is everywhere. Electricity and fuel sources are needed to power the things we rely on daily, and sustainable, readily-available energy is vital for our continued well-being. But even as our needs continue to grow, much of our energy is produced from non-renewable sources like fossil fuels, which aside from the vulnerability of being finite also contribute to climate change via greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Reducing the amount of energy you use not only saves you money, but also helps our planet.
Renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal are becoming viable replacements for non-renewable. Reducing reliance on non-renewable energy not only reduces GHG emissions and vulnerability, it can also reduce costs significantly over the long-term.
Explore this page to learn more about energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate change. There are many small actions you can do to reduce the amount of energy you use in your daily life, and many of them are free!

In 2019 the City of Avondale adopted the 2018 International Energy Efficiency Code. The Code ensures that new structures are efficient, well-sealed, and properly designed for our desert environment. Buildings that adhere to the 2018 code save their occupants money, reduce energy use, reduce pollution and GHG emissions, and promote sustainability in our community.
