The City of Avondale Public Works Department’s Pavement Preservation Program is an annual program that systematically evaluates, maintains, and improves the condition of our roadway network. As our city continues to grow and thrive, maintaining our roadways is crucial to ensuring safe, and enjoyable travel for all residents and visitors. This program is designed to optimize the lifespan of our roads and minimize the maintenance cost through strategic planning and efficient use of our taxpayer dollars. Identified city streets are selected by conducting ongoing pavement surface inspections resulting in an overall condition index rating.
The City of Avondale manages a network of approximately 900 lane miles of roadways, categorized into the three classifications below.
- Arterials are major streets, which are typically the major north/south and east/west transportation corridors spaced at each mile.
- Collectors are important transportation corridors generally running on the ½-mile north/south and east/west streets between the arterial streets.
- Local streets are typically in residential areas and provide connectivity between the collectors and arterials for local traffic.
We kindly ask the traveling public to be mindful of construction zones as appropriate signage and traffic control measures will be in place to ensure the safety of everyone on the roadways. The Public Works Department will distribute door hangers to each home that will be directly affected by any roadwork, and notifications will be sent to HOAs, shared on social media, and communicated to school districts. It is the City’s goal to minimize disruptions to everyday travel.
