The Avondale Police Department conducts a multi-phased assessment with the assistance of the City of Avondale Human Resources Department. Each phase of the process is designed to challenge candidates resulting in the most qualified applicants for the available positions. The entire hiring process generally takes 3 to 4 months.

 

Testing at high school for new recruitsThe phases include: 
  • Physical agility test:
    • 1.5 mile run (in under 14 minutes 15 seconds)
    • minimum of 23 push ups (no time limit)
    • minimum of 31 sit ups (in under 1 minute)

  • Written examination
  • Oral board interview 
  • Initial background interview / background check
  • Polygraph examination  
  • Psychological evaluation 
  • Medical examination

*The physical agility test and medical examination are not required for professional staff positions
