First Things First: First Things First is Arizona’s early childhood agency, with programs and resources to support great childhoods. By focusing on the first five years, we are making a difference in the lives of young children, their families and our communities.

 


On Site Partners

A New Leaf: A New Leaf’s homeless shelters are a critical resource for those experiencing the housing crisis that is devastating our community. 

Arizona@WorkOffer employment assistance to adults and youth (Genesis Center).  Referrals are made at the Resource Center.

Avondale Community Action Program: The goal of Community Action Program is to partner with individuals and/or families to improve their financial well-being by providing rental, mortgage and utility assistance. 

Avondale Family Education & Resource Program: Offers weekly and monthly parent education and early literacy classes. Provides free Developmental, Hearing, and Vision Screenings to children 0 to 5 years of age, car seat education, and referral services for families with children ages 0 to 5.  Housed at the Arizona Complete Health Avondale Resource Center.

Helping Families in Need: Assists with renewals and applications for AHCCCS health care, KidsCare, nutrition assistance (food stamps), cash assistance and Affordable Care Act.  Housed at the Resource Center.

Phoenix Rescue Mission: Provides centralized intake for shelter services at the Arizona Complete Health Avondale Resource Center as well as out-reach services in the community.

Sonar: The city's goal is to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring by providing leadership, coordination, planning, and mobilization of a robust array of human services.

Sojourner Center: Provides supportive domestic violence services including case management, shelter, and legal services to victims.  Housed at Arizona Complete Health Avondale Resource Center.

Southwest Behavior & Health Services: These include outpatient mental health treatment and psychiatric services including medication monitoring; assistance for persons with addictions; intensive inpatient care for persons in crisis; residential housing, in-home and supported housing services; prevention services, community outreach and school-based counseling; services throughout the lifespan for members with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); and four opioid replacement clinics throughout the state.

Touchstone Health Services- Touchstone Behavioral Health is committed to deliver the optimal continuum of health, education, and social services for Arizona children and families.
 
Trellis: Provides first time home buyer program.  Housed at the Arizona Complete Health Avondale Resource Center. Trellis is a nonprofit organization that strongly believes access to affordable housing benefits all of us. Individuals and families become stable and more economically secure; neighborhoods become vital, active communities; and cities gain jobs and tax revenues.
 
WIC, Adelante Healthcare- Walk-in services for the Women, Infant and Children-USDA’s nutrition program.  Housed at the Arizona Complete Health Avondale Resource Center.

A New Leaf (VITA): Offers Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).

Arizona Science Center: The Early Childhood Educator Science Series explores, investigates and reflects on the core concepts and practices that support inquiry in the early childhood classroom.

Child Family Resources (Parents as Teachers): Programs designed to teach you to use key information about early childhood development to help your child succeed. Using curriculum from Parents as Teachers, our educators will help you gain positive parenting techniques and increase your child’s school readiness and success. 

Maricopa County Public Health (Eat, Play, Grow): The mission of the Public Health Department is to increase the quality of life for our residents by collaborating with the community to develop and implement strategies, programs and services addressing the emerging and changing needs of public health.

Southwest Human Development (Raising a Reader): Raising A Reader is a national program designed to educate parents and caregivers about the importance of early literacy skills and how they can help build these skills in their young children to help them enter school ready to learn.
