The following information is provided to assist residential facility operators identify fire protection system requirements for their type of facility. The Fire Marshal is available to answer any questions you may have.

 Department of Health Services - Special Licensing

Group Homes for the Developmentally Disabled

  • 1 to 6 Residents- No fire protection systems required. 

Sober Living Homes

  • 1 to 5 Residents - No fire protection systems required. 
  • 1 to 6 Residents - Manual fire alarm system and NFPA 13-R fire sprinklers required. 

Department of Health Services - Bureau of Residential Facilities

Assisted Living Home - Directed

  • 1 to 5 Residents - NFPA 13-D fire sprinklers required. 
  • 1 to 6 Residents - Manual fire alarm system and NFPA 13-D fire sprinklers are required. 

Behavioral Health Resident - Adult

  • 1 to 5 Residents - No fire protection systems required. 
  • 1 to 6 Residents - Manual fire alarm system and NFPA 13-R fire sprinklers required. 

Behavioral Health Resident - Child

  • 1 to 5 Residents- No fire protection systems required.
