A candidate must file a statement of interest prior to collecting signatures. Any nomination petition signatures collected before the date the statement of interest is filed are invalid and subject to challenge (A.R.S. § 16-311). Once a candidate receives contributions or makes expenditures, in any combination, of $500, the candidate must file a Statement of Organization with the clerk within 10 days of reaching the $500 threshold (A.R.S § 16-905).
