ELECTION DAY IS AUGUST 4, 2020

ABOUT THIS ELECTION

The 2020 Primary Election Ballot will include candidates for the offices of Mayor and three Council Members as well as the City of Avondale Home Rule Proposition 431.

CITY OF AVONDALE - HOME RULE PROPOSITION 431

Avondale voters are being asked to consider an extension of the alternative expenditure limitation – also known as the Home Rule. This proposition has been passed by voters every four years since 1981, and it is time to submit it to the voters again! The Home Rule Proposition does NOT affect tax rates.

  • A yes vote… continues local control over the City of Avondale budget by establishing the alternative expenditure limitation for the City of Avondale for the next four years.
  • A no vote… has the effect of (i) not allowing the City of Avondale to continue local control over its expenditure limitation beyond the 2019-2020 fiscal year, (ii) cause the state-imposed expenditure formula to govern the City of Avondale budget and (iii) reducing the City’s estimated annual budget capacity by a projected 50%.
