Avondale Police Department Hosts 24th Annual Shop with a Cop Event Dec. 13

The Avondale Police Department will host its 24th annual Shop with a Cop event on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, continuing a beloved tradition that has brightened the holidays of local children for more than two decades.

The event brings together Avondale police officers, community partners, and volunteers to create a memorable holiday experience for children in need. This year, 21 children were selected to participate, chosen through nominations by officers and detectives who have interacted with children who were victims or witnesses of crime during the year.

On the day of the event, children will gather at Avondale City Hall, where they will be greeted by members of the police department. They will meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy breakfast, and take part in games and crafts. After breakfast, each child will be paired with an officer for a “sleigh ride” to the Avondale Walmart, escorted by a motorcade of about 20 police vehicles with lights and sirens. Santa and Mrs. Claus will follow in the department’s armored SWAT vehicle, adding to the excitement.

At Walmart, each child will receive a $250 gift card to shop for items on their Christmas wish list. Walmart, a long-time partner in the event, will also provide each child with a gift bag and holiday treats during their shopping trip.

To continue making this event possible, the Avondale Police Department is seeking donations from community members, local businesses, and supporters. Contributions directly support the participating children and help make their holiday season brighter. Donations can be made online or in person at the Avondale Police Department.

“The Shop with a Cop event embodies the Avondale Police Department’s motto, Serving with Honor, and reflects our deep commitment to building positive relationships within our community,” said Chief Memo Espinoza. “This event is a highlight of the year for our officers and the families we serve.”
