The City of Avondale’s Municipal Art Committee, in collaboration with the Avondale Parks, Recreation, and Libraries Department, invites community members and families to attend a special interactive art event on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sam Garcia Western Avenue Library.

This free, family-friendly event will showcase the work of HYBYCOZO, a globally recognized art studio known for its captivating geometric sculptures that blend light, shadow, and science. Residents will have the opportunity to view a portfolio of HYBYCOZO’s large-scale installations and participate in a hands-on activity where each guest can draw a shape that represents Avondale to them. These drawings will be shared with the artists as inspiration for a new public artwork slated for installation in Avondale’s upcoming Old Town Avondale Plaza.

HYBYCOZO is the artistic collaboration of Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk, whose work draws on patterns from mathematics, nature, and science to create immersive, luminous sculptures. Their installations have appeared around the world and have been featured by institutions like the Smithsonian and the Crystal Bridges Museum. Their designs aim to connect communities through shared visual experiences that celebrate the beauty of form and pattern.

The new artwork inspired by this community event will be part of Old Town Avondale Plaza, a public space currently being developed at the corner of Western Avenue and Dysart Road in Old Town Avondale. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the plaza will feature walking paths, decorative fencing, area lighting, landscaping, signage, and a major public art installation, marking a significant cultural and recreational enhancement for the area. Community engagement is central to the park’s development, and this event offers a direct opportunity for residents to shape the art that will define the space.
