Avondale offers Parenting Classes Online, beginning May 26

The Avondale Care1st Resource Center, in partnership with Southwest Human Development, is offering free online parenting classes to the community.  Common Sense Parenting: Toddlers and Preschoolers is an evidence-based, practical training program that gives parents effective discipline skills and helps them be more positive with their young children. The program has helped families achieve significantly fewer child behavior problems, improve parent and family satisfaction and positively impact school readiness and child development outcomes. Programs are offered in English and Spanish, and are offered virtually.

Live sessions will be offered on the four upcoming consecutive Tuesdays; May 26, June 2, June 9  & June 16, 2020.  Times offered in English are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Spanish 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Common Sense Parenting: Toddlers & Preschoolers curriculum consists of four online sessions:

  • May 26  Session 1: Program Overview; How I Grow and Learn
  • June 2 Session 2: My First Teachers; Catch Me Being Good
  • June 9 Session 3: Teach Me What to Do; Help Me Do What’s Right
  • June 16 Session 4: Help Me Calm Down; Putting It All Together

Online sessions are offered free-of-charge.  Registration is required, space is limited.

For more information or to register for this program, please contact Juan Marquez, at (623) 333-2751 or jmarquez@avondaleaz.gov. A link to the online sessions will be provided to those who register.

First Things First (FTF) approved by Arizona voters works to ensure that our youngest children have access to quality early childhood experiences so they will start school healthy and ready to succeed. Across the state, FTF regional partnership councils – in collaboration with local leaders – identify the education and health needs of children from birth through age five in their communities and fund strategies to address those needs.
