 **COVID-19 Response**   The following official announcements have been made by the city in regards to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus)   In an effort to minimize the visits to City Hall, please use our online services for paying your water bill  https://ubill.avondale.org/

Avondale is following guidance provided by the state Governor’s Executive Orders: https://azgovernor.gov/executive-orders. Effective Sunday, June 21, 2020 the wearing of face coverings by employees and customers will be required in all city facilities,  retail establishments, convenience stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, gyms, indoor sports or activity facilities, and medical offices. Additionally, these businesses will be required to post notice of these requirements at their entrances. (see more: COVID-19 Response)

City of Avondale hires Economic Development Director

 

The City of Avondale has hired Kenneth Chapa as its new Director of Economic Development (ED). Chapa starts work in Avondale on Jan. 20, 2020, filling a vacancy left by former ED Director Dan Davis, who retired in October.

Since 2016, Ken Chapa has worked for the City of Henderson, Nevada, Office of Economic Development in which he has served as both Manager and Interim Director. During his tenure, he played a key role in the development of the first urban Unmanned Autonomous Systems (UAS) test site through a partnership between the City of Henderson, Nevada State College, Nevada Institute for Autonomous Studies and the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development. He also contributed significantly to the City of Henderson’s economic development rebranding, sales and marketing strategy.

He previously served as Executive Vice President of Business Development position with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation in Michigan. He also worked as a project manager for the City of Mesa’s Economic Development Department, and held Vice President positions with the Arizona Commerce Authority.

“This is a time of tremendous growth for Avondale, with the city poised to attract new development in each of our key sectors – from the City’s health tech corridor and corporate commerce areas identified for manufacturing to the newly established sports and entertainment district known as The BLVD,” said Charles Montoya, Avondale City Manager. “Ken will lead Avondale’s economic development team in working with the city’s development and engineering services professionals to provide a top-notch customer experience for those seeking to do build and do business in Avondale.”

Ken Chapa holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Arizona State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Western Governor’s University.
