 **COVID-19 Response**   The following official announcements have been made by the city in regards to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus)   In an effort to minimize the visits to City Hall, please use our online services for paying your water bill

Avondale is following guidance provided by the state Governor’s Executive Orders: Effective Sunday, June 21, 2020 the wearing of face coverings by employees and customers will be required in all city facilities,  retail establishments, convenience stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, gyms, indoor sports or activity facilities, and medical offices. Additionally, these businesses will be required to post notice of these requirements at their entrances. (see more: COVID-19 Response)

City of Avondale hires Director of Development & Engineering Services

The City of Avondale has hired Kevin Murphy, P.E., as its new Director of  Development and Engineering Services (DES). Murphy will join the City on Jan. 6, filling a vacancy left by former DES Director, Tracy Stevens, who was recently promoted to Deputy City Manager.

Kevin Murphy’s public sector experience spans more than 30 years, including 11 years as Public Works director for Lake Havasu City, where he managed a department of 158 and oversaw a multi-million dollar budget for a variety of capital and infrastructure  projects. During the last 11 years, he has managed a civil engineering office that primarily provided engineering for public works related projects. Kevin Murphy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico.

“Kevin joins Avondale at a time of tremendous growth. With so many capital projects in the pipeline, as well as new development coming in to the city, Kevin’s experience will be invaluable in leading the team of professionals in the Development and Engineering Services Department,” said Charles Montoya, Avondale City Manager.  

The Department of Development and Engineering Services is responsible for the administration of the Planning, Engineering, Development Services Center, and Building Safety whose functions include land use planning, zoning, transportation, transit, sustainability, engineering plan review, capital improvement projects, code enforcement, building permits and inspections.   For more information visit or call (623) 333-4000.
