Avondale Hires Brian Craig as Planning Manager

Brian Craig joined the City of Avondale this week as the new Planning Manager in the Development and Engineering Services Department. Brian Craig fills the role vacated by former Planning Manager Jodie Novak, who was recently promoted to Development and Engineering Services Assistant Director.

Prior to joining Avondale, Brian Craig was Community Development Director for the City of Sheridan, Wyoming. He also previously worked for the City of Papillion, Nebraska, serving as Senior City Planner before becoming the city’s Chief Building Official. He is an experienced planning and development professional with more than 12 years of public sector experience. He has led teams over the past several years overseeing zoning entitlements, platting, annexations, GIS, community projects, permitting, plan review, inspections, code enforcement, and design, as well as managed public hearing boards and committees.

“Brian brings great depth of experience to this position,” said Jodie Novak, Development and Engineering Services Assistant Director. “He will provide the necessary guidance to each planner, whose role it is to ensure the successful development of projects in Avondale.”

Brian Craig comes on board at a time when Avondale is experiencing tremendous grow with single-family residential, commercial, and industrial and key development projects such as The BLVD (The Boulevard), a live/work/play specific plan, and the General Plan 2030 update.

Brian Craig is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, a graduate of University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and Environmental Geography, and has an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
