Avondale Observes Veterans Day with Ceremony and Fun Run

Celebrate Veterans Day, Monday November 11, 2019 at a multifaceted community celebration in Avondale to honor those who have served our country.

The City of Avondale, in collaboration with local veteran groups, will host an event to honor all veterans in the community. A ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), at the outdoor lawn area on the southeast of the campus and will include patriotic displays provided by local veteran groups; a formal ceremony recognizing all branches of military services; guest speakers, and performances by the EMCC Jazz Ensemble.

The day will also feature a Fitness Fun Run that starts at 8:30 a.m. Cost for participation in this run is $30 for military, veterans, and those who pre-register online through November 10. Register early, before October 11, and get your registration for half off: www.estrellamountain.edu/vetfunrun . Event day registration is $35.  All active duty and veterans get a discount, for a fee of $11.11.  Breakfast is incorporated as part of the cost for Fitness Fun Run for participants. Otherwise, recommended donation for breakfast is $5 per person. Proceeds of the run and breakfast support the Veterans Increasing Persistence Program at EMCC.

The event is hosted by City of Avondale and Estrella Mountain Community College, in partnership with American Legion Crandall Palmer Post 61, VFW Pat Tillman Memorial Post 40, Affiliate Auxiliary groups, and Blue Star Moms. 

Event sponsors are: T Mobile, Desert Diamond Casino West Valley, Liberty Utilities, Spooner Physical Therapy, Copper Springs, Urban Air Adventure Park, Innovative Embroidery & Screen Printing, Amalgamated, Cross Fit Fury, West Valley View, Chick Fila, Gatorade, EMCC Culinary Institute, EMCC Phi Theta Kappa.
