Community Spirit comes Alive at Billy Moore Days Festival; Event to Benefit Local Causes

Billy Moore Days, hosted October 17 – 20, takes place in Historic Avondale with the return of the event’s favorite elements, including the Billy Moore Days Parade, Festival and Carnival. Importantly, it also provides the community opportunities to participate in fun ways that benefit the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Southwest Lending Closet, the West Valley Mavericks Foundation and more.

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT

Bring your own partner for this single elimination tournament. The team fee is $40, and will be split so that 50% of the proceeds benefit the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and 50% will be distributed as prize money to the top three teams.  1st place winner will receive 60% of the cash, 2nd place will receive 20%, and 3rd place will receive 10%.  Players between the age of 10-12 years old will be allowed to throw from a “junior” line. Anyone over the age of 12 will throw from the standard throw line. Agua Fria High School Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) will host the annual Cornhole Tournament, Saturday, October 19. Pre-team registration is requested on the event website; www.billymooredays.com . The tournament is 4 -10 p.m. on Western Avenue.

FIREHOSE BARREL WARS

Come and witness this fantastic battle of the hoses! Watch Avondale Fire/Medical challenge other local fire departments in a battle with their fire hoses pushing a barrel back and forth along a cable. Following the fire department challenge will be the Southwest Lending Closet Challenge. Come cheer on your favorite team and cool off as water flies!  Southwest Lending Closet will host the Barrel Wars competition, with an entry participation of $500 per team. Trophies will be awarded to the top placers. There will also be  raffle prizes, 50/50, gift card winnings and more. The proceeds of this event go to the non-profit; an all-volunteer organization which lends durable medical equipment at no charge to those in need. The wet and wild frenzy starts at 3 p.m. on Western Avenue.  Pre-registration information available at www.billymooredays.com .

MAVERICKS SALOON

West Valley Mavericks will be your bartenders on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, Oct 20. The saloon is located near the main stage, with 100% of the proceeds from the saloon going to benefit the West Valley Mavericks Foundation. This year's beer garden will feature Crescent Crown products to include: Corona Premier, Modelo, Miller Lite, Bluemoon. The West Valley Mavericks is a non-profit organization in the West Valley that help people in need, and improve the quality of life in our West Valley communities.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION & VOLUNTEERS

Dozens of other local non-profit organizations will showcase their organization in the parade and will have booths informing the public of services and support they provide the community.  One such very interactive display includes a sports zone set up by the local Boys & Girls Club, Tri-City West/Thornwood Branch . The Boys & Girls Club will host lots of free games and play just outside of the Club on Western Avenue during Saturday, Oct 19 from 11a.m. - 3p.m.  Finally, hundreds of volunteers have committed to community service hours to make this event possible.  Special thanks to the Billy Moore Days planning committee, Key Club, our local schools National Honor Society groups, Grand Canyon University Students, Avondale Police VIPs, Avondale Police Explorers, and more as they will all have a large contingency of volunteers to help facilitate this event.
