Avondale announces new Assistant Director of Neighborhood and Family Services

Avondale announces new Assistant Director of Neighborhood and Family Services

The City of Avondale is pleased to announce that Edith Baltierrez has joined the Neighborhood and Family Services Department as new Assistant Director.  Baltierrez has over ten years managerial government experience with the cities of Surprise and Phoenix.

Prior to joining Avondale, Edith was most recently the Human Services & Community Vitality Department Supervisor for the City of Surprise, a role she has had since 2017.  She also served in the Surprise City Manager’s office as an Executive Management Analyst.  Prior to her work in Surprise, she held various managerial roles for City of Phoenix Public Works Department.

Baltierrez holds two degrees from Arizona State University, a Bachelor’s in Global Business, and a Master’s in Public Administration.

Baltierrez will help oversee the Avondale Neighborhood Family Services Department which includes the divisions of Housing & Community Development, Family Services, Youth & Community Engagement, Revitalization and Libraries.  

The Neighborhood & Family Services Department was created in 2006 to support and nurture the development of families and the neighborhoods in which they live. The goal of the department is to enhance the quality of life and sense of community experienced by residents and families in Avondale's many neighborhoods.
