Entries sought for Billy Moore Days Parade

Decorated floats, horse drawn wagons, dance groups, local celebrities and political figures, community organizations, antique cars, school clubs, scouts, and more will be marching down Western Avenue in Historic Avondale for the annual Billy Moore Days Parade, which starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 19.  The City of Avondale is inviting businesses and local organizations to be part of this time honored tradition.

Parade fee for participation is $25 with a registration deadline of October 9. It is open to all types of parade entries this year so no matter what interesting vehicle, marching group, or crazy contraption you have we want to see it.  Awards will be provided to those entries with the Best Community Spirit, Most Entertaining, Best Overall Appearance and Best Marching Band. Cash prizes will be awarded to the Best Overall appearance category and to the Best Marching Bands!  First place $1000, 2nd place $500, and 3rd $350.  Register your entry today at www.billymooredays.com/parade/

If you are not going to enter as a participant, you might consider being an event volunteer, as it is a fun and rewarding way to get involved in this local community tradition. Event coordinators are seeking volunteers for multiple roles at the event, but are also looking for parade marshals.  Marshals participate in the organization and flow of parade entries along with assistance with crowd control and traffic management along the parade route. Opportunities and applications for all volunteer roles are listed at www.billymooredays.com/volunteer/ .

At the conclusion of the parade, everyone is invited to join the rest of the festivities on Western Avenue, a street fair and carnival, which will be held all weekend long in Historic Avondale.  The entire event will be hosted the weekend of Oct 17-20.  Visit the event website to learn about all the other festivities associated with the event, including community stage performers, wild west demonstrations, carnival rides, beer garden, food trucks and more.  Admission is free; costs associated with food vendors, carnival rides.
