Avondale management staff achieve professional designations

The City of Avondale is proud to announce two recent achievements among its management staff.

Marcella Carrillo, Avondale’s City Clerk, has earned the prestigious Master Municipal Clerk designation, or MMC, which is awarded by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Inc. (IIMC).

IIMC grants the MMC designation only to those municipal clerks who complete demanding education requirements and who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, their community and state. Carrillo, who joined the city in 2018, has more than six years of municipal clerk experience.

Christina Underhill, Avondale’s Assistant Parks & Recreation Director, has earned the status of Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) awarded by the National Recreation and Park Association.  This designation establishes a national standard for managerial, administrative and executive parks and recreation professionals.

The mastery-level credential focuses on the practical knowledge and current real-world skills necessary in today’s changing park and recreation environment.  Only 12 Parks & Recreation executives in the state of Arizona have this distinguished National credential status. Underhill has more than 20 years Parks & Recreation experience, and has served the City of Avondale since 2007.

“Both Marcella and Christina have worked hard to achieve these prestigious designations, and it is a testament to the caliber of professionals we are fortunate to have in Avondale,” said Avondale City Manager, Charles Montoya.
