Civic Center Dr. to consider a request to raise its primary property taxes, consider a resolution adopting the city’s budget, and consider a request to approve the 2019-2020 fee schedule. Avondale, Veterans Groups to hold Memorial Day Service

Avondale will hold a Memorial Day Service to commemorate the lives of those lost while serving our great nation.

 Avondale’s Memorial Day service will take place on Monday, May 27, 2019 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Avondale Civic Center’s outdoor amphitheater, 11465 W. Civic Center Drive, Avondale. The public is invited to attend to honor those who have served.

 Avondale Mayor Kenn Weise will address the crowd at this reflective event, which will also include music, special tributes and a candlelight vigil. The evening musical performances feature string quartet from the West Valley Youth Symphony, Taps performed on trumpet by Todd Bevins, and bagpipe performance by Avondale Firefighter Aaron Glass. 

 Ceremonial presentations include formal Posting of the Colors, a solemn POW/MIA table ceremony demonstration, and all in attendance will be invited to take part in a candle lighting remembrance presentation towards the end of the evening.

 City of Avondale’s Memorial Day Service

Date: Monday, May 27, 2019 

Time: 6:30  – 7:30 p.m.

Place: Avondale Civic Center, 11465 W. Civic Center Drive

Cost: No cost to attend. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit upon at the amphitheater.

 In addition to the service, the City is asking for the community to submit copies of photos (not originals)  of deceased loved ones who served in the U.S. military.  The photos will be used in a temporary display that will be featured at the Memorial Day ceremony.  Photographs should be 5” x 7” or smaller, identified with the person’s name, branch of military, date of birth and date they passed.  Provide these to the City Recreation office at City Hall by May 16.  Photographs will also be accepted in person or via the mail: Avondale Recreation, City Hall 11465 W. Civic Center Drive, Avondale 85323.
