Avondale will kick off the new year with the first of several groundbreaking projects planned for the city in 2019. Improvements at Festival Fields will mark the first project to get underway this year.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled at the site at noon on Wednesday, January 9 at 101 E Lower Buckeye Road, Avondale. Avondale City Council members will be present, including Mayor Kenn Weise and Vice Mayor Bryan Kilgore, who will speak about the project.

The 30-acre park expansion will feature Avondale’s first skate park, and unique to Phoenix area, a pump track.  In addition, the park will feature a splash park, fishing lake, fitness court area, picnic areas, basketball courts, pickleball courts, a community picnic pavilion, youth sports ball fields, a dog park, and a lighted walking path around the park perimeter.  Once completed, Festival Fields will be Avondale’s second community park, with more than 50 acres of dynamic park activities for the entire family.  The project is planned to be completed December 2019.  The park improvement renovation is a $19 million investment for the community.
