2019 Avondale Council Seated Following Jan. 14 Installation Ceremony; Pat Dennis Appointed Vice Mayor

Before a Council chamber filled with family, friends and members of the community, three Avondale Councilmembers took the oath of office during last night’s City Council Meeting, the first official council meeting of the year.

Bryan Kilgore, re-elected to a second term in the 2018 primary election, and who served most recently as Vice Mayor, took the oath of office.  Also installed was Tina Conde, who was first appointed to the City Council in late 2017, and elected to her first term in 2018. Newly-elected Councilmember Curtis Nielson also took the oath of office last night

Following the installation ceremony last night, the Council voted to appoint Pat Dennis as Vice Mayor. The Vice Mayor position is a two-year term, and members of the council select an individual from among themselves to fill the seat.  First elected to the City Council in 2016 to a four year term that began in January 2017, Vice Mayor Dennis has a history of civic engagement, having served on the Avondale Parks, Recreation and Libraries Advisory Board as well as the Avondale Municipal Arts Committee. Prior to moving to Avondale, she served on the Peoria City Council representing the Palo Verde District.

Currently, Vice Mayor Dennis serves on the board for Valley Metro, the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, the Southwest Lending Closet, and most recently, as President of the Corte Sierra HOA, where she served on the board since 2013. She is also the Chair of the Avondale Council Subcommittee for Boards, Commissions and Committees.

Vice Mayor Dennis completed her Associate’s degree prior to graduating from Mercy College, in New York, with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 1981 and in 1999, she received her Arizona Real Estate License. She has varied work experience having worked as an Educational Consultant, a Real Estate Agent, an Intergovernmental Affairs Coordinator and as the Chief of Staff for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for District 5. She is also a proud graduate of the Avondale Citizens’ Leadership Academy. She and her husband Tim have been married for 37 years, and they have two sons, Thomas and Scott.
