Developer to begin work on 310-acre residential community in Avondale

Harvard Investments Inc. is embarking on a $50 million, 310-acre master-planned community in Avondale.

Plans call for breaking ground on its first neighborhoods in early 2019, said Tim Brislin, vice president of the Scottsdale-based developer. Called Verde Trails, the community will include residential and commercial parcels, themed parks and an extensive trail system.

The project is roughly bounded by 107th Avenue, Avondale Boulevard, Broadway Road and Southern Avenue.

"It has great connectivity with I-10 to the north, South Mountain Loop 202 under construction to the east, and the planned State Route 30 just to the south of Verde Trails," Brislin said.

Plans call for 847 homes on a variety of lot sizes. A 4.7-acre park will include a large event lawn, sports courts, junior soccer field, picnic ramada and barbeque area, large covered playground, walking trails and parking.

Harvard worked with Kernit Rankin of Rankin Real Estate LLC on the acquisition of the land.

Near Harvard's planned development, Brookfield Residential Properties has plans for a massive 1,130 acre residential project with nearly 3,700 homes.
