Avondale Municipal Art Committee recognizes our  Hometown Heroes for Veterans Day

Residents and staff and loved ones to pay tribute to those who are serving, have served, or have given their life in the United States Armed Forces. Banners featuring the faces of Avondale’s military Hometown Heroes are displayed on street light poles along Dysart Road just in time for Veterans Day.

This is the first year of the Hometown Hero streetlight banners that showcase the faces of Avondale’s military veterans. The Avondale Municipal Art Committee wanted to recognize our military residents and families by inspiring residents to share their stories of their family member service to our country. Avondale is proud of their service and dedication to America and the most patriotic way to share that is to honor those who served. “I think this is a great program to honor those in our community who serve. Thank you for recognizing those past, and present.” said a mother who submitted a nomination for her son. The Hometown Heroes can be viewed in the median area along Dysart Road between McDowell and Van Buren. You can also view on our website the story map to locate each banner and read a story submitted by their families.

Would you like to honor a family member or lost loved one who served in the military? To be eligible, an individual must be currently serving in the US Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard); OR a veteran who was honorably discharged or given their life in service in the US Armed Forces. The individual must also be, or have been, a permanent resident of Avondale during some point, or have a close family member (spouse, parent, legal guardian, grandparent, child or sibling) currently living in Avondale.

Space is limited for the first cycle, and the City reserves the right to cap the number of applications. For more information, and to access the application, visit www.avondaleaz.gov/hometownhero or call (623) 333-1600.
