Based on CDC recommendations, Avondale libraries are closed until further notice. The health and safety of all who enjoy our libraries remains our top priority. We will continue to provide updates in every effort to give you the latest information. Please know that no overdue fines will be accrued during this time and items put on hold will be ready to pick up as soon as we reopen.

While we are closed, new temporary library cards will be issued via email and phone. These cards will give you access to the digital products available on our website. This includes research databases, testing resources, career guides and practice tests, legal forms and downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, movies, TV series, comics and music.  All e-media services are available at https://www.avondalelibrary.org/books-media/free-downloadables and e-resources are available at https://www.avondalelibrary.org/research .

Library Closure FAQs

1) Is the library open?
No, unfortunately at this time and for the safety of all patrons and staff, All Avondale libraries will be closed at this time.

2) But my items are due tomorrow and I don’t want to pay late fees.
Due dates have been extended and no fines will accrue during this time. All due dates have temporarily been changed to April 1st.

3) Can I place a book or item on hold?
At this time, no new holds can be placed. Holds that were placed before we closed will be available for pick up when we open again.

4) I got an email saying that my items are ready to be picked-up?
Your items will be waiting for you after we re-open. Extra time will be given for you to pick-up your items.

5) What other resources do you provide since you are closed?
We have a wide range of online resources and downloadables that you can use on almost any device. You may check our research databases at https://www.avondalelibrary.org/research and https://www.avondalelibrary.org/books-media/free-downloadables for a full list of resources.

6) But I have overdue fees and my library card is expired…
Please call us at 623-333-2665 or email us at emaillibrary@avondaleaz.gov to extend the expiration date on your card.

7) Can I come in to get a library card even though you are closed?
We can make you a temporary library card over the phone with your information and assign you a library card number valid for three months. Once we re-open, you may come in with proof of address and ID to obtain a permanent library card.
